News for the New Year: Rev Canon Anne Gell who has been vicar of St Peter’s Wrecclesham since 2005 has been appointed as the next Archdeacon of Wells. She will take up her new post after Easter and will be one of three archdeacons in the Diocese of Bath and Wells.
Anne will be moving with Simon and the family to the Archdeacon’s house which has a lovely view of the west end of Wells cathedral! She will also be a Residentiary Canon at the cathedral which means she will have some duties to perform there, including taking occasional services.
In announcing the news Anne said, “I feel very privileged and deeply humbled to have been appointed to these roles, and I look forward to being able to serve, and to support and enable ministry in both of them. It is an exciting prospect to be joining Bishop Peter’s staff team and the Cathedral Chapter at a time of renewed energy and vision, and to be helping to encourage and resource the outworking of that vision in parishes, schools and chaplaincies.
“I will, of course, be very sad to leave my colleagues and friends in Wrecclesham and in the wider Diocese of Guildford. But I’m very much looking forward to moving to Somerset and getting to know the people and parishes of the Wells archdeaconry and the Cathedral community.”
The parishioners of Wrecclesham will be very sorry to let Anne go, but we shall make the most of her remaining time here and will wish her and all the family every blessing in their new lives in the west country.
