The Bishop of Guildford’s Lent Challenge for parishes this year, ‘Transforming Lent’, aims ‘to help deepen spiritual commitment during one of the most important periods of the Christian year – the 40 days before Easter – with a combination of prayer, reflection, action and fundraising for those in need – both at home and abroad’.
In introducing the Challenge Bishop Andrew writes “Transformation lies at the very heart of the Christian Good News; the community transformation that emerges when Christians truly live out their calling to ‘shine as a light in the world to the glory of God the Father’; the personal transformation that comes from knowing ourselves ‘ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven’ through the death and resurrection of God the Son; and the transformation brought about by the refreshing, renewing, disturbing work of God the Holy Spirit who ‘blows where He wills’, often in the most unexpected of people and places.”
There are leaflets available in church to help you to join in with the Lent Challenge. Over the 6 weeks of Lent we are encouraged to think about the 6 themes which underlie our diocesan vision, Transforming Church, Transforming Lives: Prayer; the Mission of God; Kingdom and the Church; Transformation; Growth; and The People of God.
Our Lent Group this year is also going to be looking at these themes through Bible reading, prayer and discussion. Do come along – it is so helpful to be able to think things through in company with others, and to support and encourage each other in our Lenten explorations.
The dates for the group this year are:-
Wednesday 8th March
Monday 13th March
Wednesday 22nd March
Monday 27th March
Wednesday 5th April
I am anticipating that we will meet at 8pm in St Peter’s on those dates, but please either sign the list in church or let me know that you would like to come, in case of venue change.
My best wishes as always, and my prayers for a holy Lent
