Pack up your troubles…
… is what a number of us did on the two days of ‘Holiday at Home’ during August.
St Peter’s church hosted eighteen older members of the community who might otherwise have been a little isolated during the summer break. Over twenty people from the church contributed their time and talent to provide a home-cooked two-course lunch, organise a guest speaker for each day, lead a variety of activities and generally make everyone feel ‘at home’.
Lively presentations on ‘Gardening with flair’ and ‘A Farnham Childhood in the 40s’ were particularly appreciated and benefited from the use of the new projector and screen in the refurbished church. But perhaps the highlight was the sing-along at the close of each day; there were rousing renditions of classic favourites such as ‘Pack up your troubles’, and a dance tune even encouraged some of us to round off the week with a waltz!
One of the guests, Pat Ellis, who was there with husband Peter, said: “What a fantastic two days – all the friendship, help with Peter, and the most lovely meals! How you do it for a donation I don’t know but please do it again. We really look forward to next year”.
Thank you to all who came and all who helped to make the event such a success.
