Funerals and Memorial Services
We understand that dealing with death is difficult for everyone. Mourning the loss of a loved one is a normal part of being human and the funeral service offers family and friends an opportunity to say ‘goodbye’. People feel a range of emotions as a result of bereavement: sorrow, anger, disbelief and anguish. Pastoral care – being available for the needs of individuals and families – is a very important part of the church’s role in Wrecclesham.
Before a funeral service takes place one of our clergy team will visit the bereaved family to tell them about how the service can be arranged , or just to listen to memories of the loved one. Later there may be further visits to arrange practical aspects of the funeral. Sometimes a funeral may be seen as a thanksgiving service for the life of the deceased; particular music, hymns or readings may be requested, or none at all. The minister conducting the funeral will be there to help the family before, during and after the service.
A funeral may take place in St Peter’s church, at the crematorium, or at a cemetery, with the Vicar, or priest, present. Some families choose to have a service in church followed or preceded by cremation.

Annual Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving
Every year at the beginning of November, we hold a service at St Peter’s at which we remember those whom we love who have died. The service is quiet and reflective and many people find it a source of comfort to remember those who are important to them, whether their loss is recent or happened many years ago.
