Services at the Church Wednesday 26th February at 10 am and 8 pm (with hymns)
On Ash Wednesday (February 26th), churches hold services in which Christians are
marked on the forehead with a cross of ashes. The ashes are made from
the palm crosses we used the year before on Palm Sunday.
St Peter’s will
hold services at 10am and 8pm.
The ash cross is a sign that acknowledges our weaknesses as individuals
and as part of humanity and we ask for God’s blessing to help us to grow
more in love and kindness as we begin to walk with Jesus to the sadness of
the Good Friday Cross and then on to the Easter joy of the new hope of
new beginnings that comes from his Resurrection.
LENT is a time to prepare for Easter and lasts forty days before Palm
Sunday which leads into Holy Week and Easter Sunday.
